Statement of intent

The two questions you need to answer are:
How you intend to use Media Language to target your intended audience,
How you intend to use Media Representations that are appropriate to your intended audience.

The statement of intent is a document that you need to write detailing some aspects of your production, like how you intent to use media language to target your audience and the type of representations you will use to appeal to your target audience.

My educational magazine is aimed towards a younger audience (11-12 year olds) preferably for girls going into secondary school and trying out makeup. The purpose of this is to prevent chemicals from harming their skin and health through the products they may use. It will include factual information based on what the chemicals within the makeup products can affect them and how it may go forwards into cancer and harmful diseases if it's gone seriously bad. To gain attention and spread awareness of this, I will include Media Language in my magazine and additionally add little extra photos represent the impact it has, which comes into the layout. An example of me using Media Language is the typography which will be engaging for the target audience, the colours I will add to the text is pink, yellow etc. As they are girly and bright colours, the font will be bold and big and lastly the name of my magazine will be 'Health and Beauty' so they understand what the theme and topic my magazine is trying to cover and spread a message of.The front cover will be a young girl (maximum age 16) wearing makeup and will have 3 other small images with skin breakouts and the aftermath of using makeup supplies.

Additionally, there may be makeup brands which don’t require or have any destructive chemicals that girls may use, examples being RMS Beauty, Josie Maran and Alima Pure – which are all natural and organic. Young female girls may not be aware of the impacts as they focus more on hiding their insecurities such as acne on their face and to look attractive. My magazine will start off with a nice approach to makeup to hook the audience in and not make them think negatively against makeup, mentioning how although makeup may consist of toxic chemicals, there are many other global brands which make and have makeup which is essential for your skin and health and will not cause any damage.

NEA Part 8 - Casting

Casting
The purpose of this task is for you to identify the actors/models that you're going to use in your products.

For my magazine, I intend to have a successful front cover along with 2 other side pictures (the cover being a model posing in makeup, the 2 others being the influence of makeup - so having bad skin, acne, etc.)

TASK 3Create a profile for each of your models/actors including the following information:

A model that will be in my magazine is Lucy Foley, a friend of mine as she will be styling for the front cover and side pictures - with and without makeup.
This person is suitable.

NEA Part 7 - Locations

Location Information
The purpose of this task is for you to assess and identify the locations you're going to use for your photography/video.

In this task, I'll be focusing on my locations for my photography. The idea I have in mind for this, is to take pictures based on someones face (possibly with a nice background or a plain background colour) due to my magazine being about the effects of makeup. The point of this is to engage the reader into buying the magazine as putting the front cover of someone with acne, bad skin etc. would NOT be engaging. If I were to do this in front of a nice background, it would be in the nature as flowers will be seen as pretty, etc.

TASK 3,
Chafford Gorges Nature Park would be the location/address.,
this makes my shoot suitable as I don't want to go too over the top with having glittery backgrounds, this also includes having a good lighting and setting when taking photos.
On the day when taking photos, it could rain, people can get in the shot, bad weather, could trip over and injure. However, I will try and focus on the weather for a suitable date and prevent any incidents occuring.

TASK 4,
I have learnt that in this task, location on your pictures matter a lot when it comes to magazines and engaging your reader to buy or review your product. This is to gain more readers and spread your message across.

NEA Part 6 - Product Profile

Product Style Profile
(finished mood board)

Learning Objectives:

K: the importance of sketches and planning in the decision making process of creating a magazine.
U: how to use sketches to influence your stylistic decisions.
BAT: undertake a creative task in which you start the decision making process in terms of style of your magazine.

TASK 2 - Write an introduction to the task that combines the learning objectives into a short paragraph.

In this task, to progress into making an educational magazine, I will be prepared and sketching ideas which will be included in the layout of how my magazine will be presented. Sketches are important for my presentation because this gives an idea of how it will be when made, its also important as you can go over mistakes and think of new things to add.

  • K: the advantages and disadvantages of using a mood board to inspire content of new media product.
  • U: how different types of images and fonts can affect the way audiences consume media texts.
  • BAT: produce a mood board that illustrates your initial ideas for your media product.
  • CO: Use media terminology throughout.
  • What brief did you choose? I chose brief 1, a magazine, as I find magazines interesting to read and they inform me with provided information.
  • What are the minimum requirements for your chosen production? To create a front cover and double spread sheet educated for 10-13 year olds.
  • What is the target audience as prescribed in the brief? 10-13 year olds.
  • What is your target audience for the product you're creating? (this needs to link to the audience profiling post). Mainly aimed for girls entering secondary school as they'll begin to wear makeup, possibly for boys too.
Write an introduction to the task.
In this task, I'll be exploring different types of things such as pictures, fonts and colours, to create and use in my informative magazine used to educate girls about makeup. I would include things which intrigue my audience and make them interested in the topic.
I will also experience new creations to add to present my product.

NEA 30 hours - March 2019

Magazines: Brief 1,
Create a front cover and a double page spread article for an informative
educational magazine aimed at an audience of 10-13 year olds.

Production must include as a minimum:
At least five original images (e.g photographs, illustrations, art work).

Front cover:
Original masthead / title.
Strapline.
Cover price, barcode, edition number.
Original images: at least one main cover image.
At least three cover lines one of which must link to the double page spread article.

Double page spread article:
Headline, stand-first and sub-headings.
Original images: one main article image and at least three other images.
Feature article of approximately 300 words that links to one of the cover lines on the front page.

I chose this brief as I'm interested in photoshop and would also like to inform children ages 10-13 about makeup. This can help people at this age as there would be information about this and backstories on it, etc. This magazine would mainly be for a female audience seeing as a high amount of girls this age will begin to wear makeup and need to be aware of the causes of it.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  • K: The requirements for each of the briefs set by OCR.
  • U: How to approach the chosen brief, including writing the statement of intent.
  • BAT: Choose a brief and start planning what to write in the statement of intent.
  • CO: Use media terminology (all areas of the theoretical framework) in your written and verbal communication.

If you chose to do Brief 1: Choose TWO front covers and TWO double spread articles from educational magazines.

Use of images

In the front cover, you can analyse that in both magazines, there is a child as a front cover which resembles that this magazine is for children's purposes. They also both include having a headline and facts and rhetorical questions around the picture possibly used to engage the reader.
